Ill. prisons incorrectly reported early release inmates, have added names -  AP January 22, 2010

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) - A botched early prison-release plan continues to haunt Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn.

Quinn's Corrections Department acknowledges it underreported the number of inmates released early in a plan known as "MGT Push."

Corrections updated its list -- with 27 new names -- Thursday night after inquiries from The Associated Press about some offenders.

Corrections now says 1,745 inmates were released early.

MGT Push involved dropping a minimum-stay requirement and giving inmates months of good-conduct time off their sentences immediately. Scores served three weeks or less total time -- including county jail.

Corrections spokeswoman Januari Smith says an antiquated computer system is to blame. A program run to find the parolees after Quinn stopped the early release practice didn't catch all of those who should have been included.
