The record 17 special session Governor Blagojevich has called this year is expected to cost taxpayers one million dollars. The 17th session begins this afternoon, when house and senate lawmakers meet to discuss Chicago area transit funding. State Senator Dan Rutherford says oftentimes, there is not even any legislation to take up during the special sessions.

Rutherford says the governor should be meeting with lawmakers during the spring session, rather than waiting until they've all gone home before calling them back.

Representative Lou Lang says Governor Blagojevich needs to shoulder most or all of the blame for this year's discord and lack of action at the Capital.

The development, hosting and maintenance of Senator Rutherford's web site are not paid for with taxpayer dollars. The phone line and internet service for Senator Rutherford's e-mails are also not paid for at taxpayer expense.
